What to do.

Ok so I am happy to say that I have finally started to get some comments about my posts, but I am curious as to how other bloggers get more followers and more comments to their posts. When I first started this blog, I went quite a while without getting a single comment and it makes one say, why bother?? But I stuck it out and I am hoping I get more followers and comments.

So, what is the secret for getting more attention?? Is it the posts mostly about Baseball versus other sports?? My Blog is basically about my Hockey autograph collection, but I have tried changing it up by showing some baseball. I have even asked others what they would like to see.

So, for all of you that are following my blog I say thank-you and I hope to get more followers and I hope I get some comments here with ideas.

Happy Collecting and be safe!!!

  1. That's a great question. I don't have any "golden" answers, but I guess "suggestions" would be the better word.

#1: I try to read and comment on other blogs for a couple of reasons. I love reading card posts. Plus... I want to support other blogs, since so many bloggers have supported my blog over the years. This will also help other bloggers know you have a blog, so they'll check it out.

#2: When I first started my blog (and I had way more time and energy), I'd run this multi-month contest where readers accumulated points just by responding to posts. I'm pretty sure I utilized the tactic of "earn bonus points for plugging my contest" which helped spread the word.

#3: I think content does make a difference in views. For example a "hockey" post definitely receives less views than a "baseball" post on my blog. I really like your blog and the stuff you feature. It's like "new" material and there aren't a lot of hockey bloggers. I also like how you ask questions. I used to do that for each of my posts, but sometimes I feel like I've asked the same questions multiple times... so I've slowed down on doing that.

#4: There are blogrolls out there which are lists of card blogs. The one I used to help me gain views was called Sports Card Blogroll. I'd add a link, but then I think my comment will be tossed into your "s" folder. Anyways if you reach out to them, they'll add you to their list of blogs which might help.

And this doesn't really go with your question... but it's just some feedback from a guy who loves being a blogger. I've learned to accept that my audience will never reach as far as the average "YouTuber". I'm just happy that I've built so many cool relationships over the past twelve years and appreciate the handful of readers who leave a comment on my posts. I consider my blog another hobby. The day it becomes more work than fun, I'll end it.

  2. Some of Fuji's suggestions a good helpers. Basically "spread the word" of your blog around the online trading card world and let the "word of mouth" work for you. If you belong to any card forums they might have a specified thread for announcing new blog posts. On of the good ones that I think he mentioned is having a contest and encouraging readers/commenters to "pimp" your contest on their own blogs and on the forums they frequent.
Another thing to do would be to read a bunch of card blogs and comment on those blogs and in your comment mention that you too have a blog.
If you are a member of TCDB (The Trading Card DataBase) there is a blogroll. You don't necessarily need to be a member for your blog to be listed, but I forget how the blogs get added. You do need to be a member to post messages on the forums there.

    1. Whoa. Had no idea TCDB had a blogroll. An even bigger surprise was that I must have added it a while back and totally forgot.

  3. Commenting on other peoples posts is always a good way to get noticed. Plus, people are more likely to support those who support them. Some people have good luck promoting their posts on social media sites too. It hasn't helped me, but it does work well for others. Oh, and Kirk's suggestion about getting your blog on to the TCDB blogroll is a really good one. All you have to is a send an email to the Admin and ask to have your blog added. It's about as easy as it gets.
