Brief Stints with one to a few teams.

As an autograph collector of the Boston Bruins there are several players that are forgotten. Forgotten not purposely but only because their playing time was short either from a career ending injury or because the player did not perform. These next Bruins players had brief playing time and played for one or two different teams. I enjoy finding the older players auto's because about 95% of their autographs are so beautiful, it would make any schoolteacher smile.

The first player is Mark Marquess. Mark played a total of 27 games all with the 1946-47 Boston Bruins. Mark scored 5 goals and 4 assists for 9 points. In one game Mark scored 2 goals one was the game winner. He also appeared in 4 playoff games but failed to register a point. He went on to play with various other teams, but his only  NHL team was Boston. He passed away January 19, 2015 at the age of 89. This autograph is one he signed a year or two before his death. You can see the shakiness in his hand as I have seen other autographs from him that are not shaky but you can easily see every letter in his entire name and look at how fancy he made the letter "M".

Our next player is Chuck Scherza. Chuck played 9 games with the Boston Bruins and 27 games with the New York Rangers for 36 NHL games. Chuck scored 2 points with the Bruins 1 goal and 1 assist. Chuck had a very nice legible autograph and as a bonus he added his jersey number 9 and added the year he played with the Bruins. Now a days a collector would have to pay a premium for an inscription and good luck reading the auto. Chuck passed away March 16, 2014 at the age of 91.

The next player is Aldo Palazzari. Palazzari played 35 NHL games 24 games with Boston and 11 games with the New York Rangers. He scored 6 goals and 3 assists with Boston and 2 goals with the Rangers. His autograph is another legible one like many of the older players who took their time to sign for their fans. Aldo had an eye injury during the 1944 training camp with the Rangers forcing him to retire from the game. Aldo passed away May 12, 2007 at the age of 88 years old.

My next post I will be showing some other Bruins Greats and these players most Bruins fans should know. If you read my blogs please follow me and thanks for taking the time to read.

Can it get any better?? Wow!! What a mail day.

During the pandemic the through the mail autos were almost extinct so it took the fun away. It seems the players today are getting harder and harder to acquire. I will say that I am happy to report that I got another Providence bruins player back and it one of two that I want. The one high on my list is Jack Ahcan as I am sending to him this Friday. The big surprise was when I used the informed delivery to check my mail. I did it late last night around midnight, well I was quite shocked to figure out who the autograph was from because when you do through the mail requests you put your mailing address in the upper left corner of the envelope and in the middle as that is the envelope the players send the cards back in. There have been only a few players that have put their address label over mine but this one I knew who it was from because of what I did to the envelope. I put two dots in black ink in each top corner of the labels and I knew who it was from. I actually had to pinch myself because I thought I was dreaming. This player only played in 3 games for the bruins during the 1984-85 season and is a extremely difficult auto to acquire.

This is the three autographed cards I got back from Oskar Steen and his auto is not that bad as I can see the letters but the big auto which is almost unheard of as the successes are very low but I am glad I am in that low success rate.

This is the autograph of Don Sylvestri and there are many that have probably never heard of him but a serious Bruins auto collector will definitely know the name and will add that he is indeed quite difficult to acquire. It would of been nice if he would have signed the card on the front but I am not upset by that I am still very happy. I got two auto's of him and I picked these two cards up from eBay and sent them to Don and he signed them both. All I can say is what a mail day it has been and it can get better but from a through the mail request it will be difficult to defeat today's mail day.

Is this a good sign???

So, my last few posts I have shown some of my through the mail autographs from the Providence Bruins. Now I never had sent any cards to the Providence Bruins before until about a month ago. I had no idea if the players ever got their cards or not, but my answer came within a couple of weeks as I got my ninth auto back through the mail.

The through the mail autographs have been down because of Covid, not sure if it is because the players felt unsafe and tried to avoid as many public outings as possible. I am going to start to send to some of the rookie players including Swayman and I hope I get the cards back signed. The ninth card I got back from the Baby B's is from Steven Fogarty and again these cards all have a black area in the background, and it is hard to see the auto as it blends together.

I am grateful to the players that do sign but again I just wish the players would put more effort so the autograph would be more legible. As you can see in Fogarty's auto it is hard to see but when you look at this card in person you can see the full auto. The easiest part of the auto to see is his jersey number 19.

This autograph of Bobby Orr is not only beautiful but if you look at other Orr auto's it is always identical, the only difference is the letter "Y" it either has the hook or just go's straight down I prefer the hook, but I do have quite a few of both. Notice how the background allows you to see every letter clearly. I am leaning on sending different cards of the Providence Bruin players but only if they are available with a lighter background. I may also send all in one bubble mailer and include a black or blue sharpie but not sure yet.

I am hoping that by getting more autographs back in higher numbers that this is a good sign for signing.
