Was this the Best Upper Deck Hockey set 1993-94???

There are many reasons to like a certain set and this 1993-94 Upper Deck hockey set is because of the player content and the base inserts. I wanted to try and get a few sets autographed so I decided to try this set along with the 1993-94 Parkhurst set. I chose the two because many of the players appear in each set and I was able to send that way to the players. So, who would be the non-signers?? When this question is asked many believe it is the stars who are hard to get but I do not fully agree with that. I believe you are successful by what you say in your letter, and I ask questions but what players like to hear is praise. If you can think of a big highlight in their career, I believe that is the formula to being successful.

Let's take a look at some of the players I chose to talk about starting with the Dominator Dominik Hasek.

This is the 1993-94 Upper Deck Domink Hasek card. I was successful in getting this one back signed. Hasek is considered tough by some collectors but remember do not send in too many cards I send usually 2-3 at a time but no more.

Another 1993-94 Upper Deck card this time of Teemu Selanne. I was surprised when I did get this one back and I remember mentioning one of his highlights was when he scored his 54th goal as a Rookie and many of you know what he did as it was one of the best goal celebrations of all time.

This one is a sad one as I got this a year before he lost his life. Steve Chiasson was a up and coming defenseman. I am very pleased that I was able to get his auto.

This 1993-94 Upper Deck card is another Team Point Leaders card this time of Pat LaFontaine. I got Pat's autograph by making a donation and his auto is quite nice but when you look at this auto the background blends with the auto.

This is another base insert from the 1993-94 Upper Deck Hockey set and this is the 100-point club Brett Hull. Now I have talked with several autograph collectors who still think that Brett is a tough sign, but I disagree as I have sent to Brett on a few occasions and each time they come back signed. This is a very nice-looking Hull auto, clean and easy to see with the lighter background.

The last card from the 1993-94 Upper Deck Hockey set is the base insert Team Point Leaders of Mike Modano. I remember that I was excited I got his back signed but it took over 400 days to get back but I did get it back.

In my opinion I do believe this is the best Upper Deck Hockey set primarily what makes it the best is that is is best suited for getting all cards autographed. I know other collectors who agree that this is a beautiful set with great base inserts. More on the other base inserts from this set in another upcoming post. I do want to add one cooler auto that I got from the 1998-99 Upper Deck MVP card of Grant Marshall.

What I really love about this card is the inscription '99 Cup and just think he did that on his own as I did not ask, well I did ask a question but that one went unanswered, and I am glad it did as I love the outcome much better. Please remember if you like please follow and I look forward to hearing your comments so please let me hear what you think and do you agree that this is one of Upper deck's best hockey set???

  1. A. Glad to see a new hockey card blog join the blogosphere. I've cut back on my hockey card collecting, but will still add San Jose Sharks cards and certain 90's inserts to my collection from time to time.

    B. Very cool additions to your autograph collection. I got to meet Selanne at a Ducks Casino Night back in the late 90's. He wasn't the most pleasant signer, but guys like Kariya, Hebert, and Grimson were.

    C. My favorite Upper Deck flagship hockey design would be the inaugural year... followed by the 1992-93 design.

  2. A Penny Sleeve For Your Thoughts mentioned your blog, so I came to check it out. There's no better way to suck me in than showing off Sabres, especially autographs of the great Dominik Hasek! Keep up the good work, I'll be reading!
